Customer Reviews: Decent camcorder but beware of faults Has worked brilliantly for three years, video quality excellent, sound reasonable. Still shots not great but didn't buy it for that.
Sadly I now get a black screen when I try and record - a common fault caused apparently by a faulty CCD. This spurred a class action in the US which resulted in Sony agreeing to fix for free any camcorder (and it affects a lot in the range, not just this one) - previous to that they'd charged $270 to fix it. I'm still waiting to hear from Sony UK to see if they'll fix it for free.
So Sony's reputation as a quality supplier seems tarnished, and I would think twice about buying from them again - I expected this camcorder to last 10 years.
excellent dv camera Fantastic dv camera, was going to buy the 22E but was swayed at the last minute to go to the 33. To get the best use of the camera, a firewire card is needed to use your I-Link (Sony's nickname for IEEE-1394/Fire wire) to get 720x576 quality movies on to your computer. otherwise through the supplied USb cable its only 320x240. Batterylife is good, possibly upgrade to a higher capacity battery, but its more then enough for me, coupled with Adobe Premiere or After effects this camera is just wikkid.
Best Camcorder in range Great Camcorder that has loads of features within easy reach. Very impressed with build and video quality. Spot metering, spot focus, and Auto/Hold white balance are really professional and easy to apply. Has all the connectivity you can think of. Good prices now that the new models are being released. Huge range of accessories for the enthusiast. Would have made a big mistake if I opted for another model/make now that the price is right. Would reccommend without hesitation.
What a Camcorder I looked on all the sites before buying this camcorder, and that is after Sony had said about the new 2004 range coming out in a months time. This camcorder is Great. Perfect picture quality, not bad stills and it's so light to have in your hand for an hours filming. I would recomend this camcorder to any one reading this. The low light filming is very nice. When your filming where there is no noise, you can hear the camcoders motor but only just, so don't worry about that. Get a spare battery at the same time as purchaseing the camcorder. Very NICE!!! Phil
I agree with Go for the TRV14 instead of the TRV33 1. the quality is poor when i export the content to CD. 2. the quality still image is quite poor. So do not expect you can combine camera and recorder in one.
