Customer Reviews: addictive novel I'm writing a review on this novel because it is the best book I have read in a long time. The book completely transforms you to another world where weird and wonderful things happen to the charactors. You become engrossed in their lives and their world, caring about the main charactors more than you thought you could! You are at a loss when you finish the book and want to carry on reading to see how things pan out in the long term, so the short novels that carry on the theme are a must read too.
Anne Bishop is a brilliant author who understands the needs of adult readers completely.
Boring and predictable i have bought this book after reading the reviews and was dreadfully disappointed. The idea is great, but the plot is so predictable, that's just scary. I gave two stars, because it is written in nice and easy manner... but that's the only superlatives.
A Book Like No Other This series of books were one of the best that I have ever read and I found myself not wanting the Trilogy to end. Although the sometimes sexual nature of the story line may be classed by some as not really appropriate, in my opinion it added something different, something mostly unknown in the Fantasy world.
I found myself imagining what it would be like to dance with the Sadist and be protected by Saetans power and Lucivars strength and almost envied Jaenelle the fierce loyalty that she provoked in so many people.
I have also read the other books in the series and must compliment Anne Bishop on allowing the readers an insite into the lives of the other people mentioned in the main books, like Marian Lucivars wife, The Gray Lady and Surreal.
I can't wait for the next book. Keep up the good work Anne Bishop.
confusing magic system I found the magic system in these novels extemely confusing with virtually no explanations given. I felt the same about the different realms or territories. By the end of the three novels I still didn't fully understand the context of the novels. Also, I found the desctiptions of child abuse and torture a bit too confronting. Although it is valid to have these events in novels, there seemed to be almost an obsession with them.
The Black Jewels Trilogy - simply magic. If you're after a dark fantasy that turns standard gender roles upside-down and inside-out, this trilogy does the trick nicely. By turns gory and delightful, heart-wrenching and laugh-out-loud funny, these books do everything a great story is supposed to. They pull you effortlessly into the world of the Blood, and despite their size, are over too soon. Featuring characters you'll love, and quite a few you'll love to hate, Anne Bishop has created a detailed, complex world that other books in the genre pale besides.
