The House of God: The Classic Novel of Life and Death in an American Hospital by Samuel Shem Interesting and troubling I work as a database guy at a med school. One of the doctors recommended this to give me "further background". Apparently it's recommended reading for all aspiring MD's. Another of the docs I work with came from the environment mentioned in the book - with some obfuscation.
