The House of God: The Classic Novel of Life and Death in an American Hospital by Samuel Shem Interesting and troubling I work as a database guy at a med school. One of the doctors recommended this to give me "further background". Apparently it's recommended reading for all aspiring MD's. Another of the docs I work with came from the environment mentioned in the book - with some obfuscation.
Intern: A Doctor's Initiation by Sandeep Jauhar Great Doctor, Boring Book Intern is long, tedious, and tiresome. The story is extremely repetitive, and talks about the same thing over and over again. How many times does one want to read "checked his blood pressure"?
