Customer Reviews: Heavy - prepare for a workout I read a lot of these reviews before selecting a vacuum for my carpet and hard wood floors. After having a bagless vaccum before, I knew I didn't want that! My husband was so happy I selected such an inexpensive vacuum. I like the long cord - I could do my whole livingroom without unplugging. I love the power - I feel like I have a clean floor for the first time in a long time. HOWEVER - it is REALLY REALLY HEAVY and hard to push! So much more than other vacuums. I am a 35-year-old active woman, who, admittedly, could work out more - but I was really getting tired pushing and pulling this thing. Not that that is a bad thing. I could use a bit more natural excercize - but I wasn't expecting it. I don't remember other reviews on the subject. So, be prepared!~
Pet hair power house! I have had this vacuum for about a year and it has worked wonderfully! I had the previous model as well for about 4 years and it too was a great vacuum.
I work my vacuums to death! In my home, we have 3 large dogs, 4 guinea pigs, 2 mice, 1 cat and twin 8 year old kids. We also have dark green carpet that shows EVERYTHING that touches it. This vacuum does such a good job, after I have cleaned, my carpet looks like it has just been shampooed. It works as well today as it did the day I bought it.
If you need a vacuum that works great for pet hair, this is the one!
Wouldn't buy again I was on a quest to find a vacuum with a stretchy hose. I was tired of my old vacuum tipping over when I'd clean with the hose and attachments; it just had no give. The hose on this is VERY STRETCHY! However, after using this for about two years, the hose is now stretched out, and it droops from its storage spot, and gets in my way when I vacuum. Also, from the start I found it very difficult to snap the hose attachments into their storage places on the back of the vacuum. They continually fall off and after losing them several times I now store them in another place. Also, it is too wide to get into many tight spots. And finally, it is crazy HEAVY. It vacuums great so I'm giving it three stars, but there are so many negative features to this I was tempted to give it two.
Good design - cheap plastic materials Very good design, great suction, self propelled, does an excellent job on carpeting. I would gladly pay more for the same vacuum made of more durable materials. It is, of course, made in China of flimsy plastic. Having tried several other vacuums over the last two years, the 4870 is a terrific improvement. Nothing else lasted even a year and nothing else cleaned so well. This is so easy to use and does such a good job that I vacuum every day. Pet hair, dust, ashes, etc all cleaned up in short order. Just pull it out, whiz it around and everything looks great. 30 ft cord is very helpful.
For those who complain about carrying the vacuum up and down stairs, I recommend getting a second one for upstairs. It will double the life of both and give you twice as long for easy cleaning without back problems. Also, the pedal that releases the vacuum into working position pushes toward the left, not back to front as most vacuums. The vacuum bag has to be inserted exactly right or the bag compartment will fill with dirt and the tubes will plug up. (Yes I did this on the first day). Moving from carpeting to bare floors means a full stop to readjust things, but most of my cleaning is carpet or Oriental rugs.
But for heavy duty vacuuming of carpeting, this vacuum is the best.
