Futurama, Vol. 2 Editorial Review: Various
Customer Reviews: Gloriously funny I see season 2 of Futurama as the time that the show stopped being The Simpsons in Space and began to eclipse Matt Groening's more popular creation. While the first season was a terrific start, the second season really gets to play around with the characters and the bizarre universe that has been established. We see more out of Zoidberg and Farnsworth, and Bender continues to steal the show.
Among the highlights of season 2 is Richard Nixon's return to politics as he runs for President of Earth using Bender's pawned body, a maniacal Santa Claus robot that goes on an annual Xmas killing spree, Fry and Bender joining the military to get a discount on chewing gum only to wind up in a real war, and the first "What-If?" episode known as the Anthology of Interest. A lot of the comedy that is established ehre would become popular enough to warrant its return in later seasons.
The only real criticism I have about these disks is that the DVDs do not have a "Play All" option on the menu. Still, that's not enough to make me drop its rating - the show is as funny as ever, and season 2 is the point where it became the best show on television.
Best of the Futurama seasons the first season of futurama was pretty good but this one is the best of the seasons. this season has some great episodes like Head in the Polls where Nixon takes benders body and runs for president of earth. other good episode include the deep south and war is the H-word one episode that is not very funny is the honking but all the other episodes make up for it. the box set has 19 episodes and the episodes are still good before the quality declined in the third and fourth season.
Crass humor; spiced with adult sarcasm This is a set of funny cartoons, albeit, crass, sarcastic, base at times, and sometimes outright vulgar, but never the less, entertaining, if one can get past the afronting style the writers for this show use. I would not recommend this for children.
Futurama I still can't believe that they ended the series, considering what all makes it on t.v. today. I love this series and I got it for my brother who was devastated when they took it off the air (well-not devatated, but pretty darn dissapointed). He loves this series more than I do, so I have to give it a 5-star rating. I received the dvd on time and in store quality condition.
For The Slacker College Student There's nothing I like more than watching cartoons just after I wake up mid-afternoon and eating breakfast, and Futurama is one of the best cartoons to accompany that.
It's hard to judge a season of Futurama without judging it against the context of four stellar seasons and two excellent movies, and not on its own merit. Expanded against first season's mere 13 episodes, this season has 19 episodes of sci-fi parody Groening style. As a number of reviewers have stated, each episode is jam packed with visual jokes that requires pausing several times just to get everything. On top of that, we are continued to the continuing adventures of one of the greatest casts in animation history: Fry, Bender, Leela, Professor Farnsworth, and my personal favorite, Dr. Zoidberg.
Some episode highlights include: "Brannigan, Begin Again" where Zapp Brannigan is court martialed and forced to live Midnight Cowboy style, "Raging Bender" where Bender becomes a robot wrestler, "A Bicyclops for Two" where Leela meets fellow cylcops alien "Al"cazar, and "War Is The H-Word" where Fry negotiates peace with the head of Henry Kissinger.
A great alternative to the Simpsons (especially modern Simpsons)!!!
