Customer Reviews: Waste of time for USMLE, Don't try this crap. the Ratings are fake I bought this for preparation to USMLE step 2.
It's funny, the book had 17 positive ratings before it was printed or available for shipping and I didn't realize it's a trap. First Aid has ranked it as a good comprehensive so I blindly pre-ordered it.
CONs:
- It has so many spelling errors.
- Not detailed at all. For USMLE you need to know the 1st-line, 2nd-line... diagnostic tools and treatment options (e.g. Dx: X-ray,Ultrasound, MRI, CT. So wat the hell! which one first!?!)
- Many mistakes (e.g. to treat HTN, quiting smoking does NOT affect HTN, but the book says it does. Page 2)
- No errata has been specified to this book so far. I tried to contact the author and send them the mistakes I have found, No response received)
- Stratification of subject is awful, you never know what you're reading belongs to which group. it's like a confusion.
- It has many tables, not worth reading, either not detailed or confusing.
- many illustrations but you already know them. very common images.
I have read this book 3 times so far, trying to get something out of it. I hated it from the beginning but had no other chance, I have already wasted my time on this.
A few friends of mine studied the "Step up to USMLE step 2", they were happy with the book from the beginning and got 243 on step 2.
I think the book has ruined my structred of knowledge which I had made from step 1.
I don't trust my knowledge nor what the book says. completely disoriented now.
before buying this try other comprehensive books.
Incomplete but a great review This is a significant improvement from previous editions. It is vastly incomplete, but a great review. I would recommend that as you read through it the first time (as you are going through your rotations) jot additional notes down in the margins from other sources, then reread the book at least two more times before taking step 2. This really should not be your only step 2 prep, but at a minimum the above should be done.
Excellent refresher book for 3rd year rotations This is an excellent book to sum up the essentials learned in the first two years of med school. It is small and convenient to refer to. It outlines major disease processes, dx, tx and px. It is not clinically based as far as specific treatments or doses. There is also very little physiology, only what it necessary to understanding the diagnosis.
Great book!! This is a great book for giving you the information that you need in a clear, concise format. I'm in my senoir yr of a FNP program and I will be using this book for a long time.
Boards and Wards This book is excellent. It gives a summary of all necessary information needed for each rotation. A must have while doing clinical rotations.
