Customer Reviews: Good reference I am currently using this textbook for a pharmacology course for a tDPT pharmacology course. This book provides a lot of in depth detail about every drug category and tries to give some insight into how it affect therapy assessments and plan of care. It works best as a reference versus a full book read in my opinion. Ciccone does a good job of really explaining the drug classes mechanism of action on the body. It gives a more in depth explanation of than just a drug reference book or what can be found online and it is tailored to things therapists care about(postural hypotension, exercise tolerance, alertness, etc). This book certainly makes a good buy for any therapists reference section but with the constant change in drugs and new findings it will be outdated easily even with the 2007 edition. I recommend some type of online update drug program in conjunction (such as Epocreates).
Is this book worth it? I would assume that the majority of people who would buy this book are taking a class in pharmacology. I have had alot of recommended text books that were not worth even taking out of the wrapper, but this book is not one of them. The author's actually spent the time to organize and gather relatively current information and then put a hard cover on it. It's getting harder and harder to get that combination. I gave this a 5 star rating because it really will be a book you will keep and reference after the class is over.
Pharmacology in Rehabilitation This is an easy-to-read, very concise and to the point text book. Ciccone does a great job of summarizing each disease process, listing the drugs used in their management, and including excellent case studies as they pertain to rehabilitation. Of particular help were the boxes at the end of each chapter which detailed any rehabilitation concerns that should be addressed in treating patients using particular pharmacological intervention. I actually read this book from start to finish and can claim to have read an entire textbook, a first for me.
Product was in Excellent Condition I was very happy with the product and the timliness of its delivery. There was not a scratch on the book. Good experience.
Great text Charles Ciccone who wrote this text was my teacher in physical therapy school at Ithaca College. Throughout college, everyone knew that if the class was taught by him we would all have an easy time understanding all of the concepts. He was a great teacher who really knew how to explain even the more difficult topics and pharmacology was no exception. This textbook was extrememly useful as it not only explains what types of drugs have specific effects on the body and it's systems, but it is particularly detailed in describing the impact that the drugs may have on rehab. Even in class, this was one aspect that he reinforced. He explained that the reason for talking about certain classes of drugs and then giving a few examples is because the drug world is always changing and so are the names. This way he has provided a wealth of knowledge and in a very easy to understand manner.
I have been out of school for about 3 years and I still occassionally refer to this book when encountering some classes of drugs and this is a great reference to have. I would highly recommend this text to anyone, that is especially if you can't be in one of his classes.
