Bates' Guide to Physical Examination and History Taking, Ninth Edition with E-Book (Guide to Physical Exam & History Taking (Bates)) Editorial Review:
The Ninth Edition of this classic text provides the best foundation for performing physical examination and taking the patient history. The book features a vibrant full-color design with over 1,400 drawings and photographs and a clear, simple two-column format with examination techniques on the left and abnormalities and interpretations on the right. Highlights of this edition include greater emphasis on patient communication and interview techniques, a new chapter on the older adult, and over 200 new drawings and photographs of abnormalities. A front-of-book CD-ROM includes videos of head-to-toe examination. Additional student resources now available include an online e-book, more than 15 medical and nursing journal articles, and new videos including Cardiovascular: Neck Vessels and Heart, and Thorax and Lungs.

Great Buy I am a Physician Assistant Student and i have to admit that every semester we are required to buy books and at the end of every semester i sell my books buy. This was the only one i did not sell back. Its great for a person who is beginning the medical field and is great for someone who just wants to brush up on technique. The CD located in the back of the books is really not that helpful because it skips critical parts of the physical exam however its good to see how to do certain things. Most of the books chapters are well organized except for the HEENT chapter bc its all over the place. However i LOVE my Bates and i still use it on clinical rotations.
Bates' Guide to PE-Great information Great book on physical examination and history taking. Will recommend to other healthcare/medical providers.
RWS I have found this book to be well organized and easy to read for such alot of information.
mistakes and typos galore it's a shame there isn't a better PE book out there. my school required that i get the 9th edition, promising that all the errors of the 8th edition were corrected in the 9th.
let me just start by saying the GLOSSARY in the back of the BOOK hasn't been updated from the last edition. you need to contact the publisher just to get a copy of the correct page numbers.
i'll leave you with this: i suggest a supplement: "Degowins" PE. it's organized 1000-times better and doesn't weigh a ton. truth about bates' is, they try to make things seem SO simple, but in medicine there is rarely only ONE answer.
because it's the only one out there of its kind (it spells out step-by-step procedures to the PE) it's an essential, but it's NOT the bible to PE; get yourself an adjunct text.
