Customer Reviews: Don't waste your time or energy!!! Ok here's the deal. Honestly, I think Goljan is absolutely brillant, but this book is wayyyyyyyyy too dense to learn from. It is practicaly impossible to remember everything from this book. Honestly, I think the BRS book BRS Pathology covers THE most relevant material. If you can understand and memorize that book ure golden. My cousin who rocked step 1 w a 261 memorized the crap out of that book, as did my brother. If you know BRS u know ure path. Honestly, ask yourself after u take a medical school exam, there is almost never a question on a mechanism, its always a cli nical scenario with a fact about the disease following (2 step). And I guarantee that u can find the answer somewhere in that book. In short BRS+First Aid!!!!! (Plus, the new BRS has pictures as well!!!!) Ure better off with BRS and honestly if your compelled listen to the Goljan lectures rather than reading this crap book.
Classic resource Everyone in my medical school class told me this was the book to have. I haven't used it a whole lot yet, but I like it so far.
Decent.... This is a great book, but I think I really got the most out of it after spending hours reviewing pathophys from a more comprehensive source (like Robbins). So if you have forgotten a lot of details from the first 2 years of med school, this book probably shouldn't be your first and only line of defense. But if you already have the fundamentals down and are using this as a refresher, it is definitely the best around. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the outline format may not be the most user-friendly style, especially for my ADD brothers and sisters.
Useful book This is a good book, but it's pretty tough to read because it just gives the facts without much extra information. However, it is very useful for studying for step 1.
I dito the claim that Goljan is the man This book is incredible!!! It reviews a lot of what is learned in Basic Sciences and beyond in a few pages.
I recommend using this book AFTER you have taken a Pathology course, and read a more detailed text book such as Robbins Basic Pathology. I say this because the concepts are covered in point format, and the book integrates a lot of other topics like pharmacology, biochemistry, physiology and embryology which may make one feel a bit overwhelmed.
I do recommend using this book to study for STEP 1, along with FA,and (if you have the time) Rapid Review Laboratory Testing in Clinical Medicine.
The only down side is that this book (unlike the previous edition)it only provides practice questions on-line (access expires in one year), and the question bank had a lot of errors.
